Boat Smart
A seawater pontoon boat is a wonderful investment with lots of potential. It can be the foundation for family outings, a fishing platform to spend the day with friends, it can become the grounds for a business, giving waterway tours or fishing trips, in some places they can be used as a water taxi as well. It is important to remember that while a saltwater pontoon boat can hold up against the decay and issues that come with salt, they can’t hold up with the conditions of the ocean.
Your typical boat or ship, built based on a design seen for thousands of years, has a rounded bow coming to a point. These help it to break through waves on the ocean and helps with stability. These boats and ships were designed specifically for ocean travel.
A pontoon boat is built to be rectangular. Though this is perfect for waterways and lakes, they don’t break through waves on the ocean. A pontoon boat has enough buoyancy that the waves should not capsize it. They will however send large amounts of water over the side of the boat. This will cover the seats and tables with water, making it difficult for passengers to stay dry. The pontoon boat will also be difficult to steer.
Some pontoon boats are built with larger motors and a tri-toon (three pontoon) design. This would improve the handling and stability of the pontoon boat in rough waters, but still not make it an ideal vessel. So boat smart, and use pontoon boats in calmer waters. Canals, waterways, rivers, and lakes would be the ideal locations for them. When using a custom pontoon boat from Fiesta Marine, their area of use can expand to both salt and fresh water.
